AI drift trainer for Assetto Corsa

Drivts teaches you to drift. 15 levels, and a coach that checks your numbers.

A small program on your PC watches how you steer, when you lift and how sideways you are. After the drift you hear one line with your numbers, every few minutes you get a task, and the coach measures whether you nailed it. Hit the goals ten sessions in a row and the next level opens.

AICoach on drift 1 · 52 km/h in · left

Rear came out clean in 2nd, that works. Right after that you lifted completely. Stay on it and countersteer right away.

AICoach on drift 3 · 49 km/h in · left

Rear came both times, good. On the second one you countersteered only after 0.7 s and spun. Countersteer the moment it comes.

AICoach on drift 4 · 56 km/h in · left

Rear came, but you lifted completely right as it broke loose. Stay flat when it comes and countersteer right away.

AICoach on drift 5 · 35 km/h in · left

The rear barely came, you stayed off the throttle too long after the lift. Lift briefly, then flat out, and it comes properly.

AICoach on drift 6 · 47 km/h in · left

Rear came clean, throttle stayed on and you countersteered after 0.3 s. Initiate exactly like that, it gets you to ten drifts.

AICoach on drift 8 · 51 km/h in · right

Stayed flat this time, the task worked. The rear came quickly, good countersteer. Keep pressing it down just like that.

AICoach on drift 11 · 43 km/h in · right

Two switches without dropping it, good chain. Task half done: after the lift you went flat, but at the end clutch instead of throttle.

AICoach on drift 12 · 55 km/h in · right

Task half done: the rear came every time, but on the last one you came off again after the lift. Go flat right after.

AICoach on drift 14 · 68 km/h in · right

In the second drift the throttle stayed on, that's why the rear came clean. Just like that: flat out and countersteer right away.

AICoach on drift 15 · 54 km/h in · right

Never fully off the throttle this time and quick on the countersteer, that's why it came clean and held long. Initiate the same way again, keep the throttle on.

AICoach on drift 16 · 67 km/h in · right

Rear came, but at 67 km/h you were too fast and it nearly went all the way round. Go in at about 40 km/h in 2nd, then it stays controllable.

AICoach on drift 17 · 26 km/h in · right

Too slow into the circle there, the rear barely came. Go in at about 40 km/h, lift briefly, then flat out.

AICoach on drift 18 · 43 km/h in · left

43 km/h in 2nd this time, spot on, the rear came straight away. Task is going well, go in the same way on the third.

AICoach on drift 19 · 46 km/h in · left

Task done: all three in 2nd at around 40 km/h and then flat out, the rear came every time. Initiate exactly like that.

AICoach on drift 20 · 49 km/h in · right

Task done, three times in 2nd and the rear came every time. But the speed crept up to 49 km/h, go in closer to 40.

AICoach on drift 21 · 41 km/h in · left

Rear came clean, no spin after three in a row. Quick countersteer. Initiate like just now, flat out when it comes.

AICoach on drift 22 · 55 km/h in · left

At 55 km/h you came in too fast, that's why the rear swung so far. Approach at about 40 km/h, then it stays manageable.

AICoach on drift 23 · 45 km/h in · right

Rear came clean, but another spin. Right after initiating you came off the throttle. Stay on it and countersteer right away.

AICoach on drift 24 · 82 km/h in · left

No spin this time, but 3rd gear at 82 km/h was too fast. Go in in 2nd at about 40 km/h and countersteer as soon as the rear comes.

AICoach on drift 25 · 49 km/h in · left

Rear came clean in 2nd, you have the goal easily. Then you lifted and turned the wheel back, that's why it spun. Hold the countersteer longer.

AICoach on drift 26 · 88 km/h in · right

Rear came, but at 88 km/h way too fast. Go into the circle at about 40 km/h, turn in, lift briefly and go flat.

AICoach on drift 28 · 44 km/h in · left

First switch done, but on the left the countersteer came only after 0.6 s and you spun. Switch the wheel right away.

Too fast is easy to see from above.

Drift 16 came in at 67 km/h. The rear swung almost all the way round, and the coach called it. Then it set a task and measured the next three approaches.

All three still ended in a spin. The speed was right now. Countersteering was the next job.

After five minutes, you get the debrief.

What worked, what's still bugging you and two things for next time. Here it is, from the same evening.

AIGoal clearly met, the rear came 27 times, almost always from 2nd gear. That puts you at 9 of 10 sessions in a row, the next one with all goals and level 1 is done. What still bugs you are the spins: 9 of them, the rear often swings too far round.

Compared to last time you are faster in the drift and had a clearly longer drift at 12.5 s. One spin fewer than last time, but still a lot. A bit more restless, you pump the throttle a little more and the angle jumps more.

  1. Repeat the initiation exactlyDo it like today: 2nd gear, turn in, lift briefly, then flat out. If the rear comes ten times or more again, you have the level.
  2. Countersteer right awaySame topic as last time, the spins show it is not there yet: as soon as the rear comes, turn the wheel into the slide right away. You can tell because the car no longer comes all the way round but gets pulled straight.

At the wheel in five minutes.

  1. 01

    Install the program.

It runs next to Assetto Corsa and the free Custom Shaders Patch. Linux for now, tested on Bazzite. Windows is coming.

  2. 02

    Pair your PC.

The program shows you eight characters, you type them into the portal. One account covers up to three PCs.

  3. 03

    Drive.

Any wheel works. Keep your speakers or headset on, the coach talks to you.

What leaves your PC.

Your driving data is stored and analysed with Hetzner in Finland and Germany. The AI behind the coach, Anthropic in the USA, only gets anonymous numbers about your drift. You can take everything with you as CSV or ZIP and delete any session on its own.

What exactly is sent

What is sent

  • To the portal: sessions with track, car and times, laps and traces (speed, throttle, brake, clutch, handbrake, steering, gear, RPM, angle, position and heading on track)
  • In tandem, the other car's position, heading and speed, without a name
  • Drifts, spins, tasks, the placement test and everything the coach said and noted about your habits
  • Your PC's name, operating system and program version
  • To Anthropic (USA), for the coach lines, from our server and anonymous: key numbers of your drifts, a short trace of throttle, brake, clutch, steering and angle, your level and the coach notes

What is not sent

  • Raw telemetry from the game (kept on your PC for 7 days)
  • Chat and the names of other drivers
  • Microphone, camera and your files
  • To Anthropic: your name, email, account, IP address, track and car

How do I learn to drift in Assetto Corsa?
Start small. Skidpad, a drift car like the E30, 2nd gear. The free placement test decides where you start, then you work your way up one level at a time. You can drop back to an earlier level whenever you like.
Do I need an expensive wheel?
No. If it works in Assetto Corsa, it works here, from a Logitech G29 to direct drive.
What does Drivts cost?
Nothing right now. While Drivts is in early access, you get in by invitation only.
Does it run on Windows?
Not yet. Right now it runs on Linux, tested on Bazzite. We're working on Windows.
Does it work offline?
It still records. The coach needs a connection though, so its lines show up once you're back online.
Is this made by the people behind Assetto Corsa?
No. Drivts is an independent product by Kaltstart Racing.
